Well, when I say green car, I mean E9X.

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t care that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is the least powerful US-spec E90, or the fact that it’s 13 years old, or that its done 175k miles, or that it’s an auto. All I care about the fact that it’s green and I want it. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t really like the taillights either, which is why I only seriously shopped 2009-2011 E90 M3s when I was M3 shopping. This car will be forgiven because it’ s green.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s also got the interior color I would want paired with that wonderful exterior. Also ignore the fact that this dealer is probably shady. I still want it.

Kinja'd!!!

So who wants to give me 4k so I can get this? I can’t buy another E9X with my own money, but it someone gives me the money? I think I can swing that.

Usual PPI warning - also, what are the common issues these things have? All I remember about BMWs is something something VANOS. If it was a Mercedes, I could be far more useful.

Common issues are coils and gaskets. They’ve got some other issues like an electric water pump, but for the most part these are pretty reliable. It’s one reason why I DD a version of this engine.

On the PPI, I’ve bought 3 cars and have yet to get a PPI. I think I’ve just been lucky.

Is it just the 330i that has the HPFP problem?

Have you considered our lord and savior, the 2006 325i 6A in Arctic Metallic™?

335i, only the turbo cars. The naturally aspirated cars had different issues.

Why not wrap one of yours for that 4k?

Because that scenario doesn’t have one of you guys giving me 4k. Also, I can’t see myself paying that kind of money for something like that at this time.

If I ever buy a car again (near zero chance given where we live) I wonder if I’ll take my own advice? Long ago I wrote bits for Car Talk, so their advice echoes in my mind. Last time someone took that advice from me? She took an Audi S4 to her mechanic and found that it needed - an engine rebuild! I did my duty.

Both my M3 and my 128i were still under factory warranty when I got them. For some reason, I wasn’t concerned about the 328i. Other than the USB port not working, it’s been pretty damn good.

I just can’t get behind the pre-facelift E90s.

Further, you would have kept your 1-series if it were a manual so I’ll still bet with two hands that the only automatic you’ll stomach long-term is a C63.

I detested the E90 when they came out the LCI changed my mind, that said, the pre-LCI ones have been growing on me.

You’re right on that. I think the only way I’d be fine with an auto is if it’s in a car you couldn’t get a manual in. Right now that list is at C63 and  335d, give it a few years and there will be more additions.

I think you’re like me, in that you’re bored and constantly coming up with dubious reasons and plausible scenarios to get a different car — even an inferior one.

Sort of, I want a different car, but the logical side of my brain overpowers my irrational  side. We could drive a C63, but we’ve also got 2 paid for BMWs.

I believe the naturally aspirated N53, which was the not North America late 328 engine, also had HPFP issues. So it’s really the non direct injected ones without that.

Pretty sure the 328i only got the N51/N52, the 330i might have gotten the N53, not really sure. My 2012 128i had an N52.

Kinja'd!!! CompactLuxuryFan > E90M3

The US never got the N53 in anything I don’t think. Outside the US, the N53 replaced the N52 in both the 325i and 330i, which both survived all through the LCI. Not sure if the E90 328i was commonly sold outside the US.

I misread what you said earlier.

I don’t really have knowledge of non-US E9Xs.

I was pretty fuzzy, but I did know about the N53 being a turbo-less N54 and therefore also suffering from that. According to Wikipedia, there was a 268 bhp version of the LCI 330i with an N52 somewhere in the world at one point. That would make that the most desirable E90 for long term ownership

Might be the combination of the lighting and my crappy phone then.

I always worry that cars like this have already suffered from indifferent maintenance by the 3rd and 4th owners.

Br other in law has a 1 series 6M - has far too many vehicles but will not sell it. Did the coils himself, as far as I know it’s running fine now. White - such a handsome little car! Next time I go to MD I should borrow it.
